Juan Gamero Director, scriptwriter and photographer

He lives in La Floresta, close to Barcelona. After four years of law studies, one year of anthropology, masters in management and in photography, he studied cinema in "L'Escola d'estudis artistics" (L'Hospitalet, Barcelona). He speaks english, german, italian, french, spanish and catalan. He has attended workshops on motion cinema in Vesc (France); on scriptwriting with Patricio Guzmán, Frank Daniel and Robert McKee; on actor's directing with Carlos Gandolfo and John Strasberg (Actor's Studio) and on cinematography with Diego Dussuel.
He started filming some shorts in 8mm and as assistant director and cameraman in feature films. Assistant director of "Ascensor" (short film, Gold Bear FilmFest Berlin 78). He produced, wrote and directed “4 Km” and “Hop!”, 35mm short films (official selection Filmfest Berlin 82 and San Sebastián 83). Director and cameraman of the video-art “Liza R.D". (2º prize Up&Down, Barcelona 84). Text and photos of "A Monty Python in Belchite", during the filming of "El barón de Münchhausen" (Terry Gillian), Ajoblanco magazine, 1987. Photo and film exhibition in sala Bikini (1989, Barcelona).
He worked as director during thirty years for TVE, the spanish public TV. He made sports, news, art, children, cultural and music programs. He directed documentaries about Mariscal, Riera i Aragó, Plensa, Català-Roca, Carles Barral or Sisa. Director of "Dos en Raya", he worked for “Metrópolis”, “Vivir cada día” (the life of Arnau Vilardebó, actor) and “Documentos TV” (“Children of 36”, doc., 3x60’, spanish civil war). He directed “Across the Sáhara” (doc); “El cas de la dona que va oblidar el seu nom” and “El salt de la granota” (short films with the Gelabert&Azzopardi dance company); or “Pinnic” (300 short fiction stories, Ondas TV Intern.1993, bronze New York Festival 1994).
In 1990/91 he wrote and directed “Prisma”, his most personal work in TVE (26x30, documentary and fiction, Expo Sevilla’92, INPUT 1990 and Prix Futura Berlin1991). The observation of human behavior and nature from differents points of view; a series of 26 monografic works with a purely visual narration. Filmed in París, Island, Costa Brava, Ecuador, Barcelona, Ireland, Tanzania and Kenia.
In 1992 he participated in the closing ceremony of the Barcelona 92' olympic games, directing the film of the games, broadcasted in the screen of the stadium and to the world. Director, cameraman and editor of "La Conxinxina", video-clip of Koniec (1994). In 1995 he takes part of the actors and directors group Alpacine. Director, scriptwriter, editor and cinematographer of the short film “Tobacco&rhum”.
Director and scriptwriter of “Living the utopia” (94’, doc., the memories of anarchists during the spanish civil war, Arte-TVE 1997, La Mirada Film Festival, Melbourne 2008; fest. Images Mouvementées-Paris 2009). Director of "Loquillo live", music concert of the record "La vida por delante" (TVE, 1997). Director and scriptwriter of “Carme Riera, landscapes for happiness” (2001, 50’, super16mm, doc., “This is my land” series, TVE), and “Redes” (TVE, science program, gold medal New York Festival 2005).
Director of the awarded documentary “Babel 2015” (the skyscrapers of the future, DTV-Natura, 2000). In 2000 he founded Paradocs to produce their own documentaries. He is director, scriptwriter, photographer and editor of “Living in Bali” (25’), “Bali, spirits and craftsmen” (52’), "Galapagos, a trip to the origins” (51”), “Ecuador: a journey to the Amazon rainforest” (29’) and "ESOF 2008", the film of the Euroscience Open Forum 2008. Since 1997 is an EDN (European documentary network) member.
